One item discussed at Congress was
increasing the number of players from 12 to 14 with two libero players as
compulsory. A new ball was also introduced to reduce velocity after hits and
have longer rallies. Several new rule changes were also ratified by the
congress. Various committees produced reports on the state of volleyball in
various regions of the world.
Local Action
Over the weekend, the Anguilla
Development Board business league volleyball continued with the highly
anticipate match between ANGLEC and Construction. On Friday Teachers walked
with a good lesson plan and the apparatus they needed as they placed Team Sports
under pressure. However it was only good for one set as Sports roared back
winning the remaining two sets. In the second game, the long arm of the law,
Police continued to improve as they arrested a set from. Unfortunately under
the guidance of Mr. Ken Banks, MICUH was able to secure victory. The featured
event for the day was the battle of brother versus brother. Anglec played
Construction in a closely fought battle. The guys from Construction knew who
the hitters were and they proceeded to have Derrick encircled by blockers. With
only Cobo as the hitter, Construction forced Justus to alter his game plan.
With Sherwin “Skywalker” Richardson, Jimmy “Swaggart” Thompson, Darcy
“Rodriguez” Brooks hitting at full steam the game got more intense. The game
culminated in a 2:1 set victory for Construction.
On Saturday the volleyball action
was just as intense as Construction lost a set to the law men but won the
contest 2sets to 1. Teachers defeated MICUH again by a 2 sets to 1 set
victory. In the final game Anglec laid waste to Sports by zapping them with a
score line of 2:1.
