Caribbean Alumni for Regional Progress scholarship recipients.

Date Posted: June, 27, 2008.

Ms. Rhaine Gumbs of the Valley Primary School and Mr. Javon Fleming Morris Vanterpool Primary School are this year’s Caribbean Alumni for Regional Progress scholarship recipients.

The aim of the CARP Scholarship is to assist needy students in the islands of Anguilla, Antigua & Barbuda, Dominica, Grenada, St. Lucia, St. Kitts/Nevis, and St. Vincent & the Grenadines.  The scholarship, which is in the amount of US $200 or EC $530.00 (previously EC $500, 2004 - 2006), is awarded annually to one student (per island) for the purchase of school supplies and/or payment of school fees.

The recipient of the scholarship should be a current student at a selected Primary School, and he/she should be selected by a Headteacher/Principal, in consultation, with his/her staff.  In addition, the scholarship recipient should be selected based on his/her financial needs and academic performance.

All scholarships funds are raised (through Alumni Contributions) and disbursed by The Alumni Chapter of the Caribbean Students Organization, at Midwestern State University in Wichita Falls, Texas.

However, there is a notable partnership with the ABI Bank in Antigua. The Bank agreed to match CARP Scholarship funds, effectively doubling the disbursement amounts to the island of Antigua.
