C&W makes
donation to Anguilla Amateur Netball Association
Date Posted: July 1, 2008.
Netball is making a comeback in Anguilla and the Anguilla Amateur Netball Association (AANA) is again working toward having a national team participate in the upcoming Under 23 OECS/ECCB Netball Tournament.
In an effort to support the association in its endeavours, Cable & Wireless made a donation of US$500 to representatives of the association on Monday 30 June 2008. Representing the AANA at the meeting were Secretary Ms Samantha Henderson and Ms Soya Williams, Public Relations Officer.
The funds provided by the telecommunications company will go towards the travel expenses for one member of the team. At the brief cheque presentation meeting on Monday morning, Mr Christonie Fleming, acting Chief Executive of Cable & Wireless said, ‘netball is one of those sports that seems to come and go in Anguilla.
Your efforts are commendable and we are happy to assist you in this way.’ He went on to congratulate them on the work that they are doing and said ‘We hope that you will be successful in the upcoming tournament and we will see this sport make resurgence in a big way in Anguilla.’
Ms Henderson and Ms Williams both expressed their thanks to Cable & Wireless on behalf of the AANA.
Ms Williams indicated that the sponsorship of one player to the tournament is timely and important to the organisation. She said ‘on behalf of the Under 23 Netball team and the AANA we would like to express heartfelt thanks to C&W for this kind contribution. It will help us to meet our budgeted expenses’.
The OECS/ECCB Netball Tournament is being held from 6 – 12 July in St Lucia and the Anguilla team will consist of ten players and three officials. This is the third year that Anguilla will be participating in this regional tournament.
