LIAT Boasts All-Time High For On-Time
Performance
Date Posted: June 13, 2008.
DURING THE MONTH OF MAY 2008, LIAT (1974) Ltd has
dramatically improved its on-time performance, reporting
record 80’s and higher, some days reaching over 90% in
on-time arrivals and departures.
“This is what we have been striving for and working towards.
It has taken some time but now that we are there, we intend
to make every effort to remain there or go higher but we
want to ensure that we do not drop back” stated CEO Mark
Darby proudly.
I want to thank the staff - the ground crew at the various
stations as well as the flight crews for making the extra
effort. The more efficient we become the better for our
passengers and our staff.”
Mr. Darby also expressed appreciation to the shareholder
governments for the support that they have given and the
confidence they had in the airline when others would not
support it. He stated that the improvement in performance is
a vindication of the Prime Ministers’ strategy especially
now that American Eagle has severely reduced its schedule to
the region. “LIAT is an important Caribbean institution and
we are here for the long term. We have no intention of
disappearing when things get a little tough. We are here to
serve the people of this region”.
Commenting on the recent massive increases in fuel costs,
Darby added “I’m sure that everyone understands by now that
the increases in fuel prices are beyond our control and as
we cannot afford to absorb the increased costs we have had
no option but to pass them on as an additional fuel
surcharge.
He explained that the airline was constantly looking for
ways to improve efficiency not just resort to increasing
fares in the face of rising costs and within coming months a
number of initiatives will be announced that speak to the
efforts being made to achieve greater operational efficiency
and innovative new revenue generating ideas.
