Rap Meets Reggae At Sumfest 2008
Date Posted: July 02, 2008.
CARIBPR NEWSWIRE, NEW YORK, NY, He`s earned titles
such as `Hottest MC in the Game` and `Best MC` while his
2008 album has sold more than a million copies in only the
first week of release. Now he`s set to heat things up in
Jamaica - but more espeically the island`s best, the world`s
greatest reggae festival, Reggae Sumest 2008.
Reggae Sumfest organizers recently announced the addition of
Rapper Lil Wayne, born Dwayne Michael Carter, Jr., to the
dynamic line-up of the annual reggae extravaganza that has
garnered a legion of fans that is similar to Woodstock in
many respects.
Lil Wayne is set to add the rap element to this year's
`international night` - set for Montego Bay, Jamaica on
Friday July 18. The Cash Money Records emcee is set to
thrill fans ahead of his hometown performance in New Orleans
in October to hits like `Tha Block is Hot,` `500 Degreez,` `Tha
Carter` and `Tha Cater II` and `Lollipop.`
Lil Wayne will join R&B singer, Keyshia Cole, known for hits
like `Should A Let You Go,` `Heaven Sent` and `I Remember,`
at International night and will also share the stage with
reggae`1s conscious voices, Richie Spice, Coco Tea, Queen
Ifrica, Lutan Fyah and the almost soulful, Terry Linen.
Rap will again meet reggae this year at the July 13-19
festival, that will also showcase some of dancehall`s best
stars. Last year rapper and actor, LL Cool J thrilled fans
and the bet is on to see if Lil Wayne can top that response.
But the dancehall stars are set to bring their own
excitement to this year`s event. Heating things up on July
17th will be D'Angel, the former wife of dancehall star
Beenie Man, who is also set to play dancehall night.
The two join a long list of exciting performers, including
Bad Boy Records` Elephant Man, Bounty Killer, Voice Mail,
Macka Diamond, Vybz Kartel, Harry Toddler, Busy Signal,
Munga Honourable, Ninja Man, Busy Signal, Wayne Marshall,
Assassin, Mavado and Konshens & Alley Cat.
Sumfest wraps up on Saturday, July 19th with performances
from reggae greats, including John Holt and Beres Hammond as
well as Tarrus Riley, Rootz Underground and Etana.
Reggae Sumfest will kick-off again this year with an annual
beach party on July 13th. It is by far the most successful
event on the entertainment calendar in Jamaica and recently
earned 'Promoter of the Year' and 'Concert of the Year' at
the 27th Annual International Reggae and World Music Awards
on May 4. The dancehall concert is set to be streamed live
this year for the first time on its website
www.reggaesumfest.com.
